Royal Caledonia curling club medal silver

Silver, un-named, obverse beautifully detailed illustrating eight men playing a curling match above the Royal Scots insignia and engraver marked “FORWARD & SON”, reverse inscribed “DISTRICT MEDAL” in an arch in the centre, “ROYAL CALEDONIAN CURLING CLUB” above and “INSTITUTED 25 JULY 1838” below, 40.3 mm, original ribbon, ornately detailed hanger, light contact, near extremely fine.

Footnote: The Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) is the mother club of the sport of curling, and the governing body of curling in Scotland. The RCCC was founded on July 25, 1838 in Edinburgh, and granted its royal charter by Queen Victoria in 1843, after she had witnessed a demonstration of the sport played on the polished ballroom floor of Scone Palace the previous year. The body is based at the Royal Highland Showground, Ingliston, Edinburgh.
